Jill was born and raised in New York. Her mother, Rosalie, was constantly changing their beautifully decorated house into whatever was the trend of the day. And there was Jill: right there, giving her opinion, unsolicited or not. How else can you explain the white and purple paneling in her childhood room?
Jill left THAT purple and went off to another purple: East Carolina University. Even though she majored in English, she spent a great deal of time rearranging the furniture and painting her dorm room. She always seem to materialize at the doorway of any fellow Pirate who uttered the words "I am so sick of this room!"
Jill spent many years in the sales and marketing arena of some of the most respected pharmaceutical companies in the world. Even though her days were spent with patients, doctors, and medication, her spare time was spent decorating not only her home, but the homes of her friends and customers as well. After some time, her hobby was more time-consuming than her paying job.
That's when Jill decided to do what she had always loved and had always had the talent for: she became an Interior Designer. People are usually surprised to hear about Jill's background but are impressed when she shows enthusiasm and knowledge of interior design.
Jill has spoken to several women's groups in the area as well as been a featured speaker at the Raleigh Home and Garden Show. She's been asked to participate in the Designer Showcase at the Southern Ideal Home Show. Jill has participated in the Wake Forest Parade of Homes and has taught classes at Meredith College and Durham and Wake Technical Colleges. She is a member of the Interior Design Society, Wake County Home Builders Association, Capital City Club, Greater Raleigh Chamber of Commerce, and National Association of Women Business Owners. Jill has been invited to participate in the Junior League of Durham and Orange County Designer Show House. She also writes a monthly column for the Wakefield Plantation and North Ridge Homeowners Associations on Interior Design. Jill is also a member of the News & Observer's Ask the Design Expert panel.
In 2015, Jill won Houzz's prestigious "Best of Houzz Design" award. Triangle residents will be able to see her in the April edition of "House Beautiful" and "Elle Decor".
Jill lives in Durham with her husband Rob, son Cooper, and rescue dog, Kizer.
Kizer is also on staff at Just Jill! Interiors. His job description involves saying hello to our clients and vendors, barking at our poor UPS and FedEx drivers, and helping Jill figure out which fabrics are washable and which are not.
Karen Erwin, Administrative Manager
Karen was born in Boston, the daughter of a US Airman. Her father’s job had her family on the move quite often: Colorado, California, Maryland. When her father retired after twenty years in the Air Force, he and his wife planted in roots in Northern Virginia.
Karen, being used to constant upheaval, did not join them. She took a position with International Information Technology Company and found that each of her many promotions came with a move. Getting things settled quickly at home as well as at the new office became second nature to her. Eventually, Karen settled down in the Triangle in 2014. She was looking forward to a slower and quieter pace in the work place.
She had no idea how far from “slow and quiet” her job at Just Jill! Interiors would be! All of her moving has come in handy as she manages to create order out of the creative tsunami Jill leaves behind. Her years of administrative management are certainly being put to the test! Karen loves that she has the opportunity to help clients in a new field that interests her. She does wish however that Jill would switch to decaf.
In her spare time, Karen loves to bake, cook and garden. She also enjoys the antics of her six, (yes, six) cats. They are not all that happy when she goes home smelling of Kizer.
